RULES.
1. Objective
1.1 To create a national/local ranking system that allows players to compete against each other in an attempt to
progress up the rankings.
2. Registration
2.1 Registration is via email to
billy@scottish8ball.com, by completing the Official Entry Form or by contacting
the organisers directly. Organisers contact details can be found on the league table page.
2.2 Applicants must submit their full name, contact phone number, valid contact email address, location and name of
preferred home venue (town and phone number if possible).
2.3 Players can register at any time before or after the event has commenced up to 4 weeks prior to the end of each season
and are eligible to play matches upon
receipt of confirmation of entry.
2.4 Entry to the ladder is £20 and is payable upon registration.
Payment should be made directly to the Ladder Organisers.
No matches may be played until full payment has been received.
2.5 Payment to the seasonal ladder also includes free entry into the overall ranking league and any relevant mid-season
tournament.
3. Format
For a match to be classed as an official Pool Ladder challenge match it must fit the following criteria:
3.1 The match must be played over a distance of a minimum of 9 frames i.e. first to 5.
3.2 The match must be played on a recognised league pool table at one of the sponsored venues*.
3.3 The rules used must be either World Rules or Federation/BAPTO rules.
If rules cannot be agreed then the ladder organisers shall decide which rules shall be played.
The organisers decision shall be final.
3.4 Both players must have agreed for it to be a challenge match before the commencement of the match.
There will be no post dated results allowed.
3.5 No handicapping of the match.
3.6 The opening break shall be determined by tossing of a coin and all subsequent frames will be alternate until the match
is finished i.e. whoever breaks first also breaks in any deciding frame
4. Scoring
4.1 After successful registration a player is allocated 200 points with which to commence the current season.
All players shall retain their rank accumulated over previous seasons for the purpose of the overall ranking league.
All players will join the overall ranking league with 200 points
4.2 After each match played the winner receives 10% of the loser’s points.
The percentage is rounded up i.e. if the loser is on 52 points the winner will receive 6 points.
4.3 In the unlikely event that a player manages to drop to 10 points or below then his score will remain
at 10 and all subsequent matches will be played for a single point until the players score is back above 10.
5. Overall Ranking
5.1 The ranking has only one main category - individual ranking.
5.2 The individuals ranking list is simply based upon that individual’s current number of ranking points
that have been accumulated via challenge matches season upon season.
6. Challenges
A Pool Ladder challenge match may take place at any of the current sponsored venues* (it doesn’t have to be at either of
the two competing players preferred venues}.
It is hoped that most players will gamely accept the challenges of others and endeavour to make mutually convenient
arrangements and match formats.
However the following rules are in force and must be adhered to in the event that a mutually convenient arrangement
cannot be made.
6.1 If player X particularly wishes to play player Y and player Y refuses to make convenient arrangements,
then player X may make an official challenge to play player Y at player Y’s chosen sponsored venue* and player
'Y's preferred rules and format. An official challenge must be made and accepted via some form of verbal
or written communication.
Once a challenge has been accepted then Player Y then has a period of 2 weeks from that date in which to
arrange and play the match, failure to do so will result in the loss of 10% of player Y's points to player X.
6.2 Once a player has accepted a challenge he will have the right to refuse all further challenges made until he has completed
the original challenge.
. However, should any player refuse a challenge on this basis then he will not be eligible to make or
accept further challenges until he has fulfilled the original challenge.
6.3 Should any player be unable to accept any challenges due to exceptional circumstances
then they must contact the Ladder Organisers immediately.
6.4 Any players who refuses challenges (unless by Rule 6.2 or Rule 6.3) will be suspended from the ladder until
the ladder organisers decide the outcome of the cancellation. The organisers' decision shall be final.
6.5 To enable fair play, players will be restricted from playing the same opponent
repeatedly. Once 2 players play a challenge match, they must both then play 5
other Ladder opponents before being allowed to challenge each other again.
Any players who play each other twice before they have played 5 opponents each will have their result made void.
Any player repeatedly abusing this rule may be suspended from the Ladder. The only exception shall be during the
mid-season tournaments.
6.6 All table costs shall be halved between both players.
6.7 Players who are found to be knowingly ignoring official challenges may be suspended from the ladder.
6.8 Players found to be cheating may be suspended from the ladder.
Match fixing is regarded as cheating and will be dealt with appropriately.
6.9 Players are responsible for remembering their own last 5 matches.
Any player who causes a match to be void due to the breaking of rule 6.5 will forfeit the match 5-0.
Any player who causes 3 void matches in any given season due to the breaking of rule 6.5 may be suspended from the ladder.
Mutually accepted challenges need not be submitted. However there is a forum on
Scottish8ball Website where all challenges and upcoming matches can be logged.
Any challenges posted and accepted via the forums shall be binding from the date of acceptance.
7. Results
7.1 Results of matches played must be (a) Registered online. (b) Emailed to
billy@scottish8ball.com
or (c) By phone or text to the Ladder Organisers. It is the duty of the winning player to forward the result.
Results will periodically be checked with the losing player, any player deliberately submitting an incorrect result
will be suspended from the league. All results will be placed online for clarification. All reported results must
include the players involved, score, venue played and the time and date of the match.
7.2 Should there be any disputes during the match, the challenged player shall be given the benefit of the doubt in all
circumstances. The match must be continued and played out in full.
At the end of the match, should either player still feel aggrieved then he must notify his opponent of his
intent to officially dispute the result. The winning player must then give details in the score
registration form or to the organisers directly.
The losing player must then send an e-mail to billy@scottish8ball.com.
Alternatively they can contact the tournament organisers direct.
The organisers shall reach a decision on the dispute and this decision will be final.
7.3 All results must be reported within 48 hours of the completed match.
Any results reported after this time may be made void.
Players must notify the Ladder organisers of any inaccurate results within 14 days.
8. Mid-season Tournaments
8.1 There will be 2 additional sponsored tournaments midway through the seasonal league which will be for cash,
points or both.
8.2 They will be free to enter for all current Player Stats.
8.3 The ladder positions shall determine which tournament a player is eligible to play.
The top half of the Seasonal league will be put into 1 tournament and the lower half will
play in the other tournament.
8.4 There will be a single open draw in advance and the tournaments will then both
be straight knockout.
8.5 All matches will be best of 9.
8.6 There will be no Rule 6.5.
8.7 All matches will be counted as official challenges and shall score points as per rule 4.2.
8.8 Any prize monies will be distributed at the end of the season.
9. Miscellaneous
9.1(a) the overall ranking league is open-ended and will continue indefinitely and all
players entering the seasonal league will be automatically entered free of charge.
9.1(b) the seasonal league is time restricted** and prize monies will be paid depending on players'
finishing position at midnight on the final day. Any matches still in progress at this time
will be deemed void.
9.2 All players will receive a rules sheet, player list and contact details at the Ladder
start meeting or upon
confirmation of entry should they be requested.
9.3 All rules must be adhered to or player(s) may be suspended from the ladder.
9.4 Prize monies for the ladder are purely dependant on entries/sponsorship.
10% of all monies shall be redeemed for administration purposes.
9.5 The organisers' reserve the right to amend rules as deemed necessary. The organisers' decision shall be final.
9.6 The ladder will run in a continuous split season format.
All prize monies will be distributed upon completion of each individual season and players
must then re-register for the following season. Players overall ranking shall be determined
upon their performance season upon season.
9.7 Any player who is still suspended at the end of the seasonal ladder will lose
entitlement to any prize monies gained.
9.8 On the final day of the ladder all players will be restricted to using only
one of the sponsored venues* which will be announced at least 14 days prior to the final day.
9.9 Should there be a points tie between any players in the seasonal league,
and there is prize monies at stake, then the last result
between the players will be the deciding factor for position. If the players have not
played each other, or there are more than 2 players tied, then all players last result
against the Ladder winner will be the deciding factor. If all players have not played the Ladder winner during that season then
the results of the players against the 2nd placed player, and so on, would be used to determine the position of the players.
then
* Sponsored venues for Season 3 are - Styx (Kirkcaldy) and CJ's (Rosyth)
** Season 3 will be played between Friday 28th January and Sunday 24th July inclusive.
